NVMe and Linux

Looking at Intel's IDF slides on NVMe which claim that the OS path-length for the NVMe I/O stack is less than half that of the SCSI stack, I am reminded of Luben Tuikov's effort to bring sanity to the Linux SCSI stack back in 2005. Could it be that NVMe is Intel's way of routing around James Bottomley? :-)
