I’ve been happy to have a set of Steve Strong’s chassis stands,
… both the large and the small stands.
However, there’s one thing that’s annoyed me about them: when you remove the pins to rotate the stand to a new position, sometimes one of the pins will roll off the bench and skitter across the floor to some obscure spot. I finally got around to fixing this problem.
I bought a lamp pull-chain extension kit at the hardware store and cut the chain into six inch lengths. Then I bought some uninsulated #6 ring tongue crimp terminals for 10 to 12 gauge wire and crimped one on each end of the chain. I learned to not fully crimp the connector, as that crushes the balls in the chain and the links fall apart.
I then drilled a 7/16” pilot hole in both the pin and the side of the stand.
I used #6 x 1/2” round-head brass screws to fasten the chain to the pin and to the side of the stand. No more lost pins!
My Vaco K-34 slotted screw-holding screwdriver comes in handy for jobs like this. Klein Tools bought out Vaco, and unfortunately it seems Klein is now only making the longer K-36 version :-(
