Sue came along with me on a recent business trip to Memphis. While I was working, she was visiting the local museums. There was a photography exhibit at the Brooks Museum of Art that Sue thought I'd like to see, so we stopped there one morning. The photography exhibit was pretty good, as were the Luigi Lucioni landscape etchings. They have a nice Canaletto, too. But the thing that really flabbergasted me was the piece of modern art in the lobby –
the Vide-O-belisk.
It's made of twenty-four victimized antique televisions. I'm not very knowledgeable about antique TV's, but the cabinetry on many of these really looked nice. It seemed such an ignominious fate for these sets. I hope nothing too rare was destroyed for this sculpture.
